The Perspective

Allergens and Weed. Why do we not talk about this enough?

One thing I never thought to ask someone I was purchasing an edible from was did it contain any allergens. I wasn't allergic to anything so I didn't care. It wasn't until people began to ask to sample some of the things that I had that it occurred to me what a dangerous game it is we are really out here playing. Of course if you don't have any major food allergies then this won't bother you, but honestly maybe it should. Pineapple makes my tongue itch. I hate the feeling but love the fruit!!! What I hate more is when that feeling comes over me and I can't figure out why. Like dang if I'm going to suffer at least let me be able to relive the delicious memory of why I am in this situation and smile. Maybe even go back for seconds.

So what is an allergen? I know you are dying to know. Well it isn't just one thing. The FDA has guidelines as to what food items are considered allergens, but for the purpose of this our infusions I would like to focus on Coconut Oil, MCT Oil, and Soybeans. I know that last one threw you for a loop but walk with me I got you. Coconut Oil and MCT Oil are derived from coconuts and under the FDA classified under tree nuts (nuts that grow on trees like Macadamias, OMG I love those cookies). They can cause an allergic reaction in some people so its very important that If you are using any form of Coconut Oil in your products that you are sure to inform your customers. Even if you know for sure they are not allergic, they should be informed. That may sound like overkill but we all know you are not supposed to eat the entire edible. What happens when that rice crispy treat gets soft and that oil along with marshmallows is all over your fingers. Next you pick up an item of a loved one with an allergy in haste not thinking. Sounds like a long shot I know, but why even take the risk? When is it ever worth it?

When we speak of Soybeans, another little known fact is A LOT of edibles have emulsifiers in them. This is a product used to bind the THC to the fat that you are trying to infuse. Will we be using them, Yes. Do you have to? No. Are they a crucial part of the process? Most people who do this with quick methods would agree it is. The emulsifiers commonly used include Soybeans Lecithin and Sunflower Lecithin. We will speak more about this during the live when we infuse our coconut oil on Saturday

Now while I hope this little TED talk saves a life, I also hope you took a few notes. If your edibles have not been hitting and honey believe me I know the disappointment, and you have not been using an emulsifier, this may solve your problem. If you are and they still aren't where you want them to be subscribe to the blog. I guarantee to make you everyone's favorite party guest! Thanks for the support!  Hope you enjoyed this short read. I love you guys!
